TB outfielder Margot undergoes elbow surgery in 'worst slump since extended contract'
Margot is on the operating table.
MLB, the official website of Major League Baseball, said on August 16 that the Tampa Bay Rays Manuel Margo will undergo elbow surgery.
According to MLB, Margot will undergo surgery to remove floating matter in his right elbow on the 17th. The recovery is expected to take about three to four weeks.
Margot, a 1994-born outfielder, signed an extension with Tampa Bay ahead of this season with a two-plus-one-year, $19 million guarantee. Margot, who wore a Tampa Bay uniform in trade ahead of the shortened season, played in 261 games in three years of the 2020-2022 season, hitting .264/.320/.375 with 15 home runs and 115 RBIs and 32 steals. Last year, he played only 89 games with knee and hamstring injuries, but he recorded four home runs and 47 RBIs and seven steals, using a career-high ratio indicator.
However, this season, the first year of the extension contract, was disappointing. Margot played in 85 games this season, hitting just .249/.300/.354 with three home runs and 30 RBIs and eight steals, and was the worst performer since joining Tampa Bay. And he was injured. For Tampa Bay, which has invested a lot of money, it is disappointing.
Margot, a native of the Dominican Republic, made his big league debut for the San Diego Padres in 2016 and played for San Diego until 2019. His career record in eight big league seasons is .254/.308/.383 51 home runs, 275 RBIs and 90 steals in 774 games.
